How to Edit Stellaris Save Files

Use this Stellaris save editor to open a .sav file in your browser, change values, and download the updated save. Everything stays on your computer. Nothing is uploaded to a server.

  1. Find your save file

Stellaris stores ironman and regular saves as .sav files in your local save games folder:

    • Windows: Documents\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris\save games\
    • macOS: ~/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/save games/
    • Linux: ~/.local/share/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/save games/

Each campaign usually has its own subfolder. Look for a file ending in .sav. That is the one you will edit.

  2. Back up your save

Before editing, copy the .sav file somewhere safe (for example, a folder named save games backup). If something goes wrong, you can restore the original.

  3. Open it in the editor

Return to the home page, then either drag the .sav file onto the upload area or click the area to browse for it. The editor will unpack the save and show its contents.

  4. Make your changes

Browse empires, leaders, resources, or the raw gamestate and meta trees. Edit the values you need, then click Download Save when you are done.

Wait until the button finishes showing Preparing… and returns to Download Save before you close the tab or move the file. Closing early can interrupt the download and leave a broken .sav.

  5. Put the save back

Move the downloaded .sav into your save games folder. Launch Stellaris and load the save as usual.
